Well, I guess you need to look at the positives, right? The Laundry, Dinner and the Dogs are the real beneficiaries of the lockdown.
The Laundry
Firstly, the laundry! I don’t know about you but life is busy! We have families, we leave home early in the morning and don’t get home until late afternoon or evening. Then there are the extra-curricular activities, being a ‘D’uber driver and collapsing to stream something before we go to bed. Laundry is left to pile up in a corner until the weekend – and just like the mail – it keeps coming and coming!!
But now, in this lockdown there is hope! Never before have I been so organized, so willing and able to step up to be the laundry master that I always wished I could be!
By the way, one of the most satisfying things you can buy nowadays is something that positively impacts your life, something that gives you time – which you can’t buy! I recently purchased a condenser dryer which does just that – gives you back time to spend with your family and to do the things that you enjoy!
Dinner on a plate
For those of us who commute every day to work, it takes a long time, an hour each way or more. Even leaving work on time at 5pm (which may not happen very often) means that if dinner were left to you to prepare, you would either be supporting the Golden Arches a lot or eating at 8pm – way too late. That extra 2 hours up your sleeve gives you options – and the time to make dinner.
You can go to the supermarket during your lunch break and be on the hotplates at 5:01! Roasts, pasta, soup, Asian dishes, its all doable and can be ready to eat by 6.
MasterChef it is not, however its all about being organized, contributing and being present.
Doggy Bliss
The beasts are the happiest of all!
Dogs are pack animals of course, and they love being with people. I am sure that the dogs you see on the back of a builders ute are among the happiest dogs around. They know they won’t be left alone at home for the day – they are going to site and will get lots of love from all of the other tradies during the day.
And so it is now with the ‘dogs of the isolation’.
I set up a couple of doggy beds in my home office and the 3 of them choose different sleeping arrangements each day and rotate throughout the day depending on their mood at the time – they could be in a ‘snuggle mood’, a social-distancing ‘mood or a ‘strategically placing myself near the kitchen just in case I get something to eat’ mood.
It must be weird being a dog – more than ever they must be confused! But one thing I know is that they are loving the isolation thing and will make the most of it while it lasts.
So there you have it – The Laundry, Dinner and the Dogs! A glass half full approach but one I am sticking with.
